InSite Software Launches TrenchVision 3D to Improve Accuracy in Utility Takeoffs

InSite Software, a provider of construction software for earthwork and utility takeoff, today announced the release of TrenchVision 3D, a new utility takeoff tool integrated into its Elevation Pro platform. TrenchVision 3D helps site contractors produce more accurate utility quantities, reduce estimating risk, and improve confidence when bidding underground work.

Utility takeoffs are often difficult to verify, especially when plans, profiles, and subsurface data come from multiple sources. TrenchVision 3D brings those inputs together and provides interactive 3D visualization so estimators can review trench conditions, validate quantities, and identify issues earlier in the bid process.

Elevation Pro: One Platform for Earthwork and Utility Takeoff

TrenchVision 3D is built into Elevation Pro, InSite Software’s takeoff platform for contractors estimating earthwork, grading, and underground infrastructure. Elevation Pro consolidates PDFs, CAD drawings, survey data, and drone data into a single takeoff workflow, reducing rework and improving consistency across project documents.

“The difference between winning and losing a bid often comes down to speed, accuracy, and confidence in the numbers,” said Steve Warfle, CEO at InSite Software. “Elevation Pro gives estimators one place to review their data, validate quantities, and prepare bids with greater clarity.”

TrenchVision 3D: Solid-Modeled Utility Quantities

Included with every Elevation Pro subscription, TrenchVision 3D applies solid modeling to utility takeoff to calculate excavation and backfill quantities for sanitary and storm sewer systems. The tool accounts for changing trench depths common in gravity-based designs and automatically updates quantities as trench conditions change. The result is a clearer 3D representation of excavation, backfill, pipe, and structure dimensions—helping contractors bid with greater accuracy and confidence.

Key capabilities include:

  • Flexible Trench Configurations – Supports multiple trench shapes and multiple pipes within a single trench
  • Multi-Document Alignment – Aligns utility drawings with grading and earthwork plans for improved accuracy
  • Collision Detection – Identifies conflicts between utilities before construction begins
  • Excavation by Strata – Calculates excavation quantities by subsurface material that may affect production
  • Clear Reporting – Generates easy-to-read reports with graphics that communicate scope and quantities

“In utility work, even small quantity errors can become costly,” Warfle said. “TrenchVision 3D helps contractors reduce uncertainty and deliver takeoffs that are easier to verify and defend.”

Built for Site Contractors

By combining earthwork takeoff, utility estimating, and multi-source data integration into a single platform, InSite Software provides site contractors with a practical toolset for preparing accurate bids and managing risk.

“Our focus is on making takeoff faster, more accurate, and easier to verify,” Warfle added. “When contractors spend less time fighting software, they can spend more time evaluating projects and building better bids.”
